Damn this week flew by! We used Easter for an extra recording day and we managed to get “Toy Doll”, “When You Know” and “Jouw Niets” on tape. We’ve released “Toy Doll” on SoundCloud and when the mixing and mastering is done “When You Know” will be next. “Jouw Niets” is gonna be (#Spoiler) the hidden track on our album. We think it’s fun to have one Dutch song on it. So only the recording of the last track is on the agenda which means that we are closing the distance to being done with recording! Exciting!
In between setting up a company together and the birthday of LucieJ’s daughter we still managed to get some stage time. Friday night was a night out to Amsterdam. We played at Zuko, a rooftop bar. Beautiful place, nice view, interesting setup. Never seen a bar with a ping pong table and a punching bag. After our on-the-road-dinner in the band bus we took the elevator to the rooftop.
The curse of the stage-piano was not yet lifted this week. They turned the volume down on our request but it still sounded like an military airplane breaking through the sound barrier. Ah well, next week at least one gig with superb sound and a grand piano ready to play at the venue itself. Looking forward to playing in Streams Brede Beek (in Nijkerk) again.
It’s amazing to see the difference in open mics on the road. The crowd, the feel, the sound, the performers. They all change from venue to venue but also from city to city. From what we’ve seen so far, and keep in mind we’ve only done one gig in Amsterdam up until now, we feel most at home playing in the venues in Utrecht. Amsterdam was fun, but somehow very different music and energy in the place. Maybe it was just this particular bar, or this particular time slot who knows! The next one over there might surprise us. We’re having a blast in any case.
